If you ever get the urge, I would love to see a photo survey of your neighborhood. Are there other "nice" houses in your block or street, or are they generally awaiting the hand of someone like you to be brought back to life?
Hahaha! That's why I had to post something today. It would have been hilarious just to leave it for a week, but a really cheap shot. (But don't think I wasn't really tempted.)
The entire neighborhood is full of huge brick mansions like mine that have been broken up into either apartments or simple rooming houses. (Mine, too: I actually have four addresses.) The neighborhood is not the best, as a result, but I'm told it's a lot better than it was five years ago.
All these houses are lovely, and they all need tons of work; they've been rentals for a very long time indeed, and maintenance has been spotty on most of them. But whew. I can see why people here have a tendency to become slumlords; the houses are just great and I wouldn't mind buying a few myself.
