Cory Doctorow's "Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town"
I ran across a mention of one of Cory Doctorow's books that I had never really noticed before (Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town), and the first chapter (at least) is about house renovation. Amazing. Cory gets it.

The intersection of geekdom and construction
This is the kind of thing I aspire to, both the geeky math-plus-practice aspect of it and the Internetty documentation aspect: a least-squares fit of a sloping floor to cut lots of thin sheets of Masonite to make a level platform for a desk chair.

Moving house: an inspirational story
How a little old lady spent 23 years single-handedly dismantling her house, brick by brick, and rebuilt it 100 miles away. It's crazy people like this who make this life worth the living. Makes my plumbing problems look pretty trivial.
